LOCATION
The development site is located in the town of
Skrip on the island of Brac. Brac is one of the
larger and most accessible of the Croatian islands lying off the Dalmatian
coast near Split. The site itself is on high ground with panoramic views
across the sea to the mainland with the Dinaric mountains rising to the
1762 metre peak of Sveti Jure providing a spectacular backdrop.
BRAC
Brac is the largest of the central Dalmatian group of islands and
the third largest among Croatias Adriatic islands. The islands landscape
is dominated by woodland, which covers 26.5% of the land area, and karst
limestone. The land rises steeply to the interior and the highest peak,
Vodova Gora (778m), is the highest peak of all the islands.
SKRIP
Skrip is located 3 kilometres inland from Splitska and 12 kilometres
from the ferry port of Supertar. On high ground, 251 metres above
sea level, the village provides spectacular panoramic views to the
north and east. Skrip is the oldest settlement on Brac having been
founded by the Illyrians. During the Roman era the quarries at Skrip
provided the stone for building Diocletians Palace in Split
(AD 295 to AD 305). |

remains from the Illyrian and Roman periods can be seen and the town
has a museum displaying artefacts from its history. The dominant buildings
in the town are the 17th century fortification, Cerenics Castle
and the 18th century church of Sveti Jelena. The more modern facilities
include a shop and restaurant. |
|
THE DEVELOPMENT |
| The development site is located
on the edge of the built up area of Skrip with views over countryside
and the channel between Brac and the mainland. The site will be divided
into three plots with each plot providing a single villa, swimming
pool and covered terraces. |

The villas will be built using local materials
and designed to blend with the traditional architecture of the
area and the surrounding natural environment. External walls will
be built of local stone. Brac building stone is renowned throughout
Croatia and beyond. The White House in Washington DC was built
with stone shipped from Brac. Internally stone will also be used
for certain walls and for features such as fireplaces.
|
|
|

Kitchens will be fully fitted with all appliances. Downstairs, floors
will be of stone or tiles and upstairs the bedroom floors will be
wood and the bathrooms tiled. A feature of the villas will be the
outside covered terraces providing shade and an area for barbecuing.
|
|

Swimming pools will be provided with solar heating and the whole
of the garden area will be planted and landscaped. Boundary walls
will be constructed from stone in the local style.

THE SURROUNDING AREA
Places to visit on Brac
SPLITSKA
Situated around a delightful harbour, the town of Splitska, which lies
on the coast below Skrip, is one of the most attractive communities on
the island.

PUCISCA
Situated around a sheltered harbour, has a character defined by its fine
stone buildings set in terraces on the steep hillside. Here young stone
masons are trained and can be seen practising their skills at The School
of Stone Masons on the harbour front.

MILNA
Situated in a deep bay at the western end of the island is a favourite
destination for yachtsmen. In the summer months the harbour is filled
with yachts moored in the marina and along the town quay providing plenty
of custom for the quayside cafes and restaurants

BOL
On the southern side of the island has examples of 15th and 17th century
architecture but is best known for its famous beach, Zlatni Rat, a shingle
spit stretching out over 600 metres into the sea.

SPLIT
Croatias second city. A bustling port from which to take ferries
to the Croatian islands, Split is famous for its football club, Hajduc
and for the wonderful Diocletians Palace, now a UNESCO World Heritage
site.
The Palace, built by the Roman Emperor Diocletian at
the end of the third century AD, forms the core of the old town and has
been adapted and remodelled throughout the ages so that it displays a
breathtaking mix of architecture from the Roman through to the later Venetian
period.
A few kilometres up the coast is the smaller but perfectly
formed medieval town of Trogir which was designated a UNESCO World Cultural
Heritage site in 1997 with the following justification:
Trogir is an excellent example
of a medieval town built on and conforming with the layout of a Hellenistic
and Roman city that has conserved its urban fabric to an exceptional degree
and with the minimum of modern interventions, in which the trajectory
of social and cultural development is clearly visible in every aspect
of the townscape."
Trogir is also a thriving tourist centre with
numerous restaurants, bars and cafes and a lively night life. It sheltered
harbour and marina provides a haven for yachts and fishing boats whose
presence adds to the atmosphere of the town.
